I'm not a big fan... sure it's predictable, but it's kinda Gordon Campbellesque, even though he didn't invent the concept.
I think it's a mistake. The rationale used to support it is that fixed election dates will prevent the governing party from calling elections when it is most popular. But the reality is that fixed election dates bring with them a whole host of other problems related to the electoral cycle, including budgets that increase funding right before elections and decrease it right after, and excessively long election campaigns. I think it is naive to believe that fixed election dates will have any huge positive effect. Further than that, I hate Harper and the Tories, and I don't trust them, so I also don't trust this bill.
